Preventing marine and river contamination

The Sewerage Act and Water Pollution Control Act set standards for the quality of wastewater discharged from factories and other facilities. Additionally, municipalities may establish specific standards based on agreements.

At Taisho Pharmaceutical, we ensure that wastewater from our factories and research facilities meets these legal and municipal standards by treating it before discharge. For items with a higher risk of exceeding these standards, we have established stricter internal criteria and conduct continuous monitoring to respond promptly to any abnormalities.

Preventing soil contamination

The Soil Contamination Countermeasures Act and municipal ordinances set standards for soil and groundwater quality.

At Taisho Pharmaceutical, a soil survey conducted at our Omiya plant site from 1999 to 2000 revealed contamination of soil and groundwater. Consequently, since 2001, we have been continuously implementing measures to purify and prevent the spread of contaminants. Additionally, we measure environmental standard substances in groundwater every two months.

Rigorously managing PCB waste

Rigorously managing PCB waste

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) were once widely used in electronic equipment but have been found to be harmful to humans and the environment. Their manufacture and import are now prohibited. PCB-containing waste is properly stored and managed in accordance with the Waste Management Law and the PCB Special Measures Law, with annual status reports submitted to the authorities.

As of 2024, all high-concentration PCB-containing equipment identified has been disposed of.
