Foods for specified health use (FOSHU) that promote natural bowel movement
Release of "DoFiber Peach" and "DoFiber Grape"
- New-texture Jelly Drinks -

Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (President: Akira Uehara) will release DoFiber Peach and DoFiber Grape as new products in the "Livita" brand range on October 28. These products promote natural bowel movement and are approved foods for specified health use (FOSHU).

According to the National Nutrition Survey of Japan in 2002, Japanese people are eating less dietary fiber every year. The survey revealed an average daily dietary fiber intake of 14.2 g, which is much less than the recommended daily intake of 20 to 25 g.

DoFiber is a jelly drink that promotes natural bowel movement and is an approved FOSHU. It contains psyllium husks, and as such, it is an excellent source of dietary fiber, which tends to be lacking in our diet. Psyllium (Plantago psyllium) is a type of plantain, and the husk is a form of natural dietary fiber. Psyllium husks have greater water-retention capacity and expand more than other types of dietary fiber. They absorb water readily and form a soft jelly, a characteristic that has been utilized to produce a new texture and a very filling jelly drink.

In 2003, Taisho Pharmaceutical established Livita (Life Vitality Support) brand, a comprehensive brand of products whose safety and effectiveness were scientifically proved. So far, we have released Cholescare and Cholescare Neo (FOSHU), which suppress cholesterol absorption, Glucocare (FOSHU), which prevents rapid increases in blood sugar levels following meals, and Gen-en Shukan (low-sodium table salt, foods for special dietary uses [FSDU]), which has 50% less sodium than normal salt and is suitable for people with hypertension. All products have been well received.

The DoFiber products were developed under agreement between Taisho Pharmaceutical and Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd. (President: Koki Ando). Taisho applied for FOSHU approval for these products, and approval was granted.

By releasing DoFiber, we are continuing to support the health of consumers, and strengthen the Livita brand.
