Double Benefit of Dietary Fiber and Natural Active Ingredients
Taisho to Launch New Laxative "Colac Fiber"

Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (President: Akira Uehara) announced the addition of "Colac Fiber" to the Colac series of natural-feeling laxatives. Sales are to start on March 5, 2004.

In a national nutrition survey in Japan, a high proportion of respondents said they were aware of dietary fiber, with approximately half of those women surveyed expressing interest. However, actual intake of dietary fiber has been on a downward trend over the past few years. In response to consumer need, Taisho Pharmaceutical is releasing "Colac Fiber", a laxative fortified with dietary fiber.

"Colac Fiber" facilitates a natural-feeling movement with the plantago ovata dietary fiber expanding within the digestive tract, and stimulating bowel movement in the large intestine with the natural active ingredients cassia seed and sennoside. Vitamins help maintain the health of the large intestine and remedy roughness commonly associated with constipation. "Colac Fiber" comes in a portable and convenient stick package with a palatable cocoa flavor.

The Colac series is the best-selling laxative on the market, which is valued at approximately ¥30 billion. The Colac series includes the effective "Colac", "Colac Herb" with natural active ingredients for a natural-feeling movement, "Colac Soft" with soft-acting western medicines that helps to prevent stomach pain, and the fast-acting "Colac Suppository-Type" that releases carbon dioxide to facilitate movement. The launch of "Colac Fiber" is in response to diversifying consumer needs.
