New Drink Lines Completed
At Taisho Pharmatceutical's Okayama Factory

Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (President: Akira Uehara) has completed expansion of its Okayama Factory, the company's primary production center for tonics and nutrient drinks products in Western Japan.

The expansion, which adds new lines at the factory, ramps up production to fill distribution channels expanded following the relaxation of regulations governing tonics and nutrient drinks, reflects the need to replace equipment installed when the factory was constructed fifteen years ago, and enables the company to respond effectively to increasing product diversification. Construction began in April of last year and required an investment of 13.5 billion yen.

New production facilities include four high-speed filling and packaging lines that can be switched back-and-forth from 100ml to 50ml products in response to changes in demand and raise the factory's production capacity to 1.1 million bottles per day. Production at the factory was halted while older lines were renovated.

A just-in-time system has been implemented to ensure deliveries of materials and ingredients in precisely the quantities needed at precisely the times they are needed. The warehouse was also expanded, providing the extra capacity needed to ensure stable supplies during the summer peak sales season. Products from the factory are distributed in parts of Japan including and west of the city of Nagoya.

A factory tour system has also been put in place, allowing visitors to experience for themselves how tonics and nutrient drinks are made.
