Product Release:Taisho Kampo Ichoyaku Oral Solution Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (President: Akira Uehara) is planning to release a new herbal drink for stomach and digestive problems on September 3. Taisho Kampo Ichoyaku Oral Solution contains Wuling San and Huanglian Jiedu Tang, ingredients based on traditional herbal remedies from China. A 30ml bottle will sell for 480 yen. Wuling San effectively improves stomach function after overdrinking, promotes the discharge of water and alcohol from the stomach, and relieves the aftereffects of overdrinking/overeating, a heavy feeling in the stomach and nausea. Huanglian Jiedu Tang treats weak tunica mucosa ventriculi, and relieves nausea and vomiting. By taking care of everything, from material procurement to filling and packaging at one location, Taisho is able to maintain the freshness and the taste of the herbal remedy as well as to ensure high quality. According to a Taisho market research survey, in the gastrointestinal treatment drink market, sales on a single-bottle basis have increased about 10 percent in the past four years. Consumers seem to prefer buying a single bottle because it can be imbibed at the counter when they buy it. In addition, a monthly index shows that the highest demand for such drinks occurs in December and January. In this period, sales jump 150 percent. Taisho's lineup of gastrointestinal treatments includes Taisho Kampo Ichoyaku, the Company's first such product, which was launched in 1978 and achieved the top share in 1983; Taisho ES Block Z, an H2-blocker released in 1997; and Avaion S, transferred in 1998 to an OTC drug from the prescription drug, Solon.
